Mission Statement
The Harborton History Museum Project was founded in late 2010 with the goal to preserve artifacts and stories from Harborton's past for future generations. Since its opening on June 4th, 2016 the museum has had steady growth in exabits and support from the community. The 2022 Summer Session proudly marks our 6th Anniversary of the Museums opening.

ABOUT US
The Harborton History Museum project was Founded in late 2010 with a mission to preserve Harborton's past for future generations. The Museum officially opened its doors on June 4th, 2016, The Museum is located in the Former Harborton Post Office Building which served as Harborton's Post Office and the Hub of Harborton for more than 40 years from 1974 -2005. The Museum is also located on the former grounds of the Harborton High School 1907 - 1944. The 2022 Summer Session marks the Museum's 6th Anniversary the Musuem is a collection of Harborton's Past and offers visitors a glimpse into what it was like during the steamboat era in this once thriving industrial town. We are located on the corner of Junior and Dockview Street in Beautiful Harborton, Virginia Please stop by and visit.

About Harborton, Virginia
Harborton is a small community located in Accomack County on Virginia's Eastern Shore and boarders along the Pungoteague Creek and Taylor Creek less than a mile from the World-Famous Chesapeake Bay. The town itself was established in 1880 but there are records of activity on Pungoteague Creek as early as 1667. Harborton today may be a quite small close-knit community, but it wasn't always that way Harborton was once one of the Eastern Shore's largest industrial towns alongside Onanacock and Cape Charles the Eastern Shore's three largest steamboat ports. Harborton was once a home to two churches a High School, Menhaden Fish Factory, multiple general store's and one of the largest Steamboat Ports owned and operated by the Eastern Shore steamboat Co. The town also had multiple visits from the Famous James Adams Floating Theater in the late 1800's through early 1900's. The Pungoteague Creek also played a part in the war of 1812 when a conflict between the British Navy stationed, on Tangier Island at the time and local militia fought with rounds of fire being exchanged. Later 1n 1863 Pungoteague Creek also played a role during the Civil War when it was believed that supplies when being snuck in through a blockade to deliver supplies to Saint Georges Church in Pungoteague which served a base for the Union Army.
